We have just had our class exhibition and it was a huge success. Many visitors came and asked questions and all our pieces were praised by both guests and visitors. The animations were all given to Lynn, our tutor and she edited them to play all after each other and on a continuous loop. This was then places in the exhibition playing on a laptop which visitors could enjoy.

Even I stayed to watch as I had not yet seen the other students works and found it interesting to compare with them. I was amazed at how imaginative some were.

My animation is almost complete so hopefully (internet allowing) I should be able to post it up in the next post or the one after. My storyboard goes as follows:

The owner of a house leaves but pauses to tell the house to "Behave Itself" before fully leaving completely. This represents oppression of others to force you to be a 'sheep'.

After he leaves, the house develops eyes and begins to change shape, defying its orders.

A message appears briefly showing the words BE DIFFERENT and the house continues to grow and change. This is what I took from my artists paintings of famous buildings and changes them drastically through the art of cubism.

The house continues to grow until eventually breaking out through the top of the page and coming into real life. This represents the artists use of their talent to ESCAPE the everyday life.

I have started to get well into my animation, drawing the story as well as editing them on Photoshop, clearing them up and such. I have also been looking into my artist and found that in many of his abstract paintings he portraits famouse buildings and changes them adding on shapes and twisting and turning. I personally see this as his means to escape.

So for my idea I want to create a video that shows this idea of escape by change. Here are some photos of my preparations:

For the next few days I will be completing the finished piece and sending them into my tutor but dont worry I'll post the video first.

I have started the making of my animation and will be posting it later, because I want some result before posting it. For now I have posted some research and tests I have made:

I've decided to draw the animation on a whiteboard, making it easier to change each drawing accordingly. Then take a photo of each using a tripod and put them all on Windows Movie Maker. I need to see the animation in full to decide on a fps speed.

Today I have begun to take up my animation project once more. I am intrigued by the idea of drawing my whole animation on white board as it means I wont need to constantly use up sheets and sheets of paper, (being a student I'm not exactly rolling in the money)

Also my Tutor John Langan, showed the class an animation called Gulp. Its the largest stop-motion animation in the world... and its taken completely on a mobile phone, which just goes to show you don't need all the equipment to create an impressive animation, check it out:

I'll be keeping udates on my animation project as well as anything interesting I am working on.

Today I had a break from my animation in order to see other artist's works in the Arts Festival in Tulca in Galway.We visited several small galleries around Galway before finally spending the rest of the day sketching in the town. It was a valuable experience as I discovered the style of modern art that is popular now, not to mention the diversity. So I've decided to stay with Robert Delauney but I want to encorporate the city of Galway into it somehow. I've begun with a basic house and like the piece 'La Tour de Rouge' I will twist and turn it, adding on shapes growing out of the side of the house.
I have not yet decided whether I'll be using drawing or actual model miquette to make the animation...

For my L2L module, I have been asked to create a stop-motion animation video inspired by an artist, complete with a soundtrack. After much consideration, I have decided to study the Cubism Painter: Robert Delauney.

What caught my eye about Delauney is his strong vibrant colour and geometric shapes. After reading up on the artist I discovered Delauney enjoys a great deal of experimentation, which enticed me to study him more.

This is a self portrait and mind map I made for L2L. The portrait was simply drawn from a mirror while the mind map is a story of how I became interested in art and how events in my life influenced and steered me towards where I am now. Doing the mind map has made me realize how far I have come despite the obstacles I encountered.
